Process: all mugs are hand thrown on the pottery wheel. Once the clay sets, each mug is trimmed and a handle is attached.
Using a product called underglaze, the entire surface of the mug is painted before the pieces are fired in the kiln. Since the clay is still soft at this stage the design is carved out of the surface.
All pieces go through two firings in the kiln; the first of which is called the bisque. Prior the the second firing or “glaze firing” a clear glaze is applied.
Each design layout varies- same birds, but different layouts on each mug. All mugs are slightly different in size and shape as they are handmade.
